"Be Yourself to Free Yourself"
Be Yourself to Free Yourself, It’s so simple...yet so elusive.
Why do we be anything but what we are supposed to be?
Why do we make things so hard?
Why do we make it complicated?
You may never have asked yourself those questions before...I urge you to ponder them and pay attention to the answers that show themselves. Pay attention to how you feel when you hear the answers. Do they make you feel 'good'? Do they make you feel 'bad'?
Did you notice I put 'quotation marks' around the words 'good' and 'bad'...any idea why? I do this because in the past few years it’s come to my attention that we like to label things as good or bad quite often. The word I’d like to emphasise here is label. What does the label 'good' mean? Good by who’s standards? Yours, theirs, your parents, the Dali lama [insert your religious figure of choice here], the next door neighbours dog?
How about looking at it as – it just is – it just is what it is and we can choose the way we label it...better still...we can choose the way we react to it!
Have you ever thought about Embracing the good & the bad, the light and the shadows? Have you ever thought about what it would be like to truly be in the flow of the situation? I like to use an analogy of the person and the waves...
Think of a time that you we’re at the beach (or perhaps you were watching someone at the beach). There were waves coming towards you about to crash, you braced for impact and down came the waves hitting you head on taking the wind out of you and knocking you down. Now think of a similar time where waves were coming in and you simply dove into the wave, swam through and came up out the other side. Wasn’t that easier? Didn’t that turn something that could have been perceived as bad into something that was flowing and effortless?
Try it next time you are at the beach...go on, I urge you. And next time you face an obstacle or a challenge that you may instinctively label as bad...I urge you to take a moment to rethink and to choose how you will embrace, handle or flow through this experience in your life, in that moment, in the present.
Ahhh the present. That’s something we will cover later on....
